do you ever do any shoots with inexperienced models? I'm talking not signed, no portfolio? I would love to work with you but am afraid you will say no due to my lack of experience
Yes. Agency models often get discovered and signed in their early teen years, and while they have the look, they too have a pretty significant lack of experience in front of the camera.
Shoot me an email and show yourself, homegirl.
do you style your models completely, as in makeup and hair? or do you just do wardrobes?
If hair and makeup are involved, I’ll hire someone who does that and give them examples of the look/feel that I’m going for. But I always defer to their expertise. If it’s an agency test, then I’ll hire a stylist and, once again, give them ideas of what I want.
If it’s a simple 1-on-1 test shoot, I shoot them as they come and don’t bother with crazy styling. I usually tell them to go light and natural on the makeup if they do anything at all. 99% of the girls you’ll see on my blog right now came to the shoot that way (in terms of hair/makeup).
And a LOT of the girls that I shoot with work at AA and already have a look that complements the way that I like to shoot, so it all works out. Same with wardrobe, again, since I shoot a lot of AA-esque stuff and they obviously have tons of it already in their personal wardrobe.
I do buy different pieces here and there if I’ve got a more specific concept in mind, though. Though I’ve really been buying backdrops and weird props and stuff more than anything else lately.
how do you find your models? sorry if this is a FAQ
It can be from anywhere, really. Agencies, Instagram, Tumblr, and a LOT from American Apparel locations here in Chicago.
What do you look for in models?
There isn’t really one specific thing. I just need to see you. Short dark hair, dark blue eyes, and a slim build maybe if we’re talking about specific physical features? That’s more of my own personal preference, though.
But much like what I look for in a girl, what I look for in a model varies quite a bit.
